Brace yourself. I’m going to join the ranks of Hallmark and Hobby Lobby and start talking about Christmas. In October.
I know, I know. We haven’t even made it through Halloween yet. Believe me, I’m not putting up tinsel and breaking out my Harry Connick holiday CD.
But when it comes to budgeting for the holidays, you really can’t start too soon.
Last year, I told you how we planned for Christmas expenses. I’m doing the same thing this year: using the “extra” paycheck in December to buy presents. (I budget for four paychecks a month, and four times a year, we get an “extra” one!)
However, since we’ve gone from two full-time salaries to one, I’m using other resources to fund our holiday spending, too.
One of the ways I’m buying gifts this year is through the FREE Amazon gift cards I’ve earned through Swagbucks.
Do you use Swagbucks? It’s a search engine that allows you to earn points (or “bucks”) simply by searching. Then you can cash in those points for “swag” such as Amazon gift cards.
Yeah. It’s that simple.
Questions you might have about Swagbucks – and my honest answers:
What can I buy with Swagbucks points?
You can buy lots of different things, but the gift cards are the best value by far. I’ve only used Swagbucks to buy Amazon gift cards, since you can pretty much buy anything on Amazon. For example, in the past three months, I’ve bought books, CDs, perfume, a magazine subscription and a tricycle! (As you might have guessed, yes, those are affiliate links.)
How long does it take to earn points or bucks?
It depends on how often you search. Personally, I’m a big believer in finding everything online, so I search quite a bit. However, since quitting my job and staying home, I’ve noticed that I search less than when I sat at a computer eight hours a day. By searching a few times a day (literally, four or five times), I usually earn at least 10 points a day.
Is searching with Swagbucks as good as using Google?
Not exactly. Several of the first-page results will be sponsored links. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean they’re not the exact site or page you’re looking for! Occasionally, I won’t find what I need on the first page or two, and I’ll switch over to Google. But I’d say at least 95% of the time, I find just what I’m searching for on the first page, often without even scrolling down.
How do I get started using Swagbucks?
Why, I’m so glad you asked! Just visit Swagbucks and sign up. Then, I highly suggest downloading the Swagbucks toolbar. It’s easy, handy and doesn’t bog down your computer. (I promised. I checked. And I used it.)
Do you have any other questions about Swagbucks? This really has been one of the easiest ways for me to save a few dollars for buying gifts. After all, I’m going to search. Why not get paid for it?!
Have you started saving – or shopping – for Christmas yet?
