{Perfect} Deals for Back to School

You guys. It was so cool yesterday that on my way to work, I actually turned off the air conditioning in my car. And my Walmart is completely sold out of backpacks. And, maybe not most importantly but – I’m not going to lie – very exciting, the fall TV schedule is posted on several websites.

It is almost time for school to start. As a matter of fact, a couple of the districts where I live are starting this week, and I saw a couple homeschooling friends post that they were beginning their years last week.

While I’m sure you’ve already bought your kids’ or your own school supplies, I found a few deals that might help you ease into fall (whether anyone in your house is headed to school or not)!

This summer I’ve had to start packing a lunch for Annalyn on the two days she goes to daycare. And this fall I’ll have to do it three days a week when she goes to preschool. So far, she’s been pretty easy to please, asking for a peanut butter (no jelly, thank you) sandwich every day with one fruit and one veggie. But just last night she said, “Mommy, I’m getting a little tired of peanut butter. Maybe I could take pizza next week?”

While I’m not going to start sending pizza in my kiddo’s lunch, I am on the hunt for new lunch ideas. Luckily, I remembered that Easy Lunchboxes not only sells great containers and coolers for lunches (that are environmentally safe and save you money in the end), but also has tons of great ideas – including photos of nearly 200 different lunches! – on its website.

And while I’m at it, I guess I’d better label all her stuff, too. I mean, writing on things with a sharpie has worked so far. But now that my almost-five-year-old is starting to be a little more concerned about what’s “cool” – and now that I’ve gotten to know Kiddo Tags through a few freelance projects – I know that custom name tags are where it’s at. I’m still not going to buy her the obnoxious Barbie backpack she’s had her eye on (the last-a-lifetime bag my parents got her last year from Lands’ End will work just fine!), but I can put her name on everything with the cutest (and most durable) Kiddo Tags.

And now for something completely unrelated to back to school, but still oh-so-relevant! The beginning of the school year also means the beginning of football season. Not that I’d even pay attention to that if I weren’t married to a football fan. But since I am – and since his team is joining the SEC this year – I bought this book for him yesterday: God & Football: Faith and Fanatacism in the SEC by Chad Gibbs. Based on the reviews I’ve read, you want to buy this, too, for the football fanatics in your life. (I’ll let you know for sure after he’s read it.)

My next Amazon purchase is one for Annalyn, and the fresh start of fall is a good time for it. I haven’t loved her Veggie Tales devotional, so the next one I’m going to try is Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young. Have you read this one? Is it good for a four-almost-five-year-old?

I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you about Dayspring’s sale on school supplies. It’s buy two, get one free in Dayspring’s back to school department, so if you have teens or tweens, check it out!

But just in case you’re over school supplies and ready to get something pretty for yourself (or start your Christmas shopping now), I’m excited to tell you that several items in Dayspring’s Redeemed Collection are on sale this month. The wooden perpetual calendar is on sale for $29.99 (regularly $49.99), the metal bird feeder is on sale for $19.99 (regularly $29.99), and the Everything Beautiful wall mirror (my favorite!) is on sale for $29.99 (regularly $39.99).

And I can’t help telling you about What’s in the Bible DVDs again. We watch one of our videos at least once a week, and we listen to the CD in the car more than any other CD we have. No joke. We love these crazy puppets! You can buy each of the DVDs for $14.99 each, or you can get the entire Old Testament (9 DVDs) for just $109.99 (regularly $134.99). Buy them now . . . and then you, too, can walk around singing Bible songs in a puppet voice. (It’s way better than that sounds, I promise.)

Happy shopping and have a great weekend!

Pssst! Hey, you! Yeah, YOU. I’ve got a special coupon code for you this week.

For the next five days, DaySpring is offering Giving Up on Perfect readers a 65% coupon code for the set of nine Inspirational Message Blocks.

I gave my mom a set of these blocks last year, and I bought two sets over Thanksgiving weekend for this Christmas. (Shhh! Don’t tell my family, friends or anyone who might be receiving a gift from me!) Although . . . it’s possible I might keep one of those sets for myself. Or buy another one this week.

Either way, what I’m telling you is that I love these blocks. The wooden blocks are painted lovely muted colors that would match a lot of different decors – and you can combine them to make dozens of different inspiring words. Check out a few of the word options:

Don’t Miss the DaySpring Christmas Preview Sale!

Yikes! DaySpring is having a huge sale, and I almost forgot to tell you!

Through the rest of the day (today! October 10!), you’ll receive 20% off all Christmas preview items, including ornaments, decor and cards. You don’t want to miss this one!

I know. That’s a lot of sales speech and exclamation points, but I almost missed it myself and am now frantically trying to figure out what to buy. Today!

I’m starting with the new Christmas line, Love Came Down. I adore this whole set of beautiful products. From the wonderful message to the rich colors, I pretty much want every single piece. Every. Single. One.

From gift bags to coffee mugs to home decor and dishes, this line will go perfectly in my house. I mean, your house. Or both! Yes, let’s both buy these lovely things!

Okay, fine. So maybe it’s getting close enough to Christmas that we should look at gifts for others. I suppose that’s what the holidays are about, anyway – not just making my house/your house look pretty? Right?

Right.

How about something from the Jesus is the Gift collection? Last year, these mugs and platters made great teacher and neighbor gifts. Just add a few cookies or hot cocoa mix, and you’ve got a beautiful, meaningful (semi-handmade) present! And if you haven’t bought your wrapping paper yet, I highly suggest this set. It’s on sale for just $25 (before the sale discount), and it is great quality wrapping. I bought two sets in last year’s after-Christmas sale!

DaySpring also offers great Christmas items for children. Teach your kiddos about the real meaning of Christmas (you mean it’s not just about presents and pretty decorations?!) with the Really Woolly advent calendar or Happy Birthday, Jesus activity book. Or let them display their own, kid-sized nativity scene. (That nativity scene is crazy cute, and it is definitely on my must-buy-today list!)

Speaking of nativity scenes, several different ones are on sale! Willow Tree has a popular nativity scene, and this hurricane trio is my personal favorite. I bought it last year, and it officially became the centerpiece on top of our entertainment center (or, as I like to call it at Christmastime, the mantel).

I’d tell you about more of the sale items, but I have to go finalize my own order now. Don’t wait – this sale is over at midnight! Use the code PREV20 for 20% off and remember that orders over $50 always get free shipping. Enjoy your shopping!!

The photos and links in this post are affiliate links and will take you to the main Christmas preview sale site. That means if you click here and buy there, I’ll make a small commission. But you get the goods at a lovely 20% discount. So, it’s definitely a win/win situation!

(in)spired deals :: As for Me and My House

Every month, DaySpring offers generous deals on some of their most beautiful and meaningful products. Throughout May, you’ll find great discounts on items that will allow us to share our love of God – and dedication to serving Him – in our homes.

In our home, I’ve gone from one decorating extreme (every surface covered) to another (plain and sparse). Recently, I’ve realized that blank walls – while peaceful to look upon – are a tad…boring. And don’t really reflect our personalities or values. So little by little, I’m adding meaningful pieces into our home.

Which is a lot easier with DaySpring sales!

These beautiful wood carved wall hangings are on sale.
Ask, Seek & Knock is only $17.99, and the Ichthys hanging is just $29.99.

This ornate metal collection is on sale. You can get the pressed tin cross for $7.79,
the cross serving tray for $17.99, the cross napkin holder for $11.99,
the cross trivet for $6.59 and a set of coasters for $11.99.

During the month of May, you can also use the coupon code MAY20 for 20% off. What a great deal!

How do you and your house serve the Lord?

(in)spired deals :: Gift of Grace

Every month, (in)courage features a line of products on their site, hosting link-ups and giving you a special discount code. DaySpring offers the most beautiful – and meaningful – products, and I’m excited to tell you about this month’s featured items. They are just perfect for the Easter season.

To celebrate Easter and the gift of God’s amazing grace, DaySpring has special deals on items focusing on grace.

Throughout this month, DaySpring is offering 50% off the Wonderful Grace carved wooden serving tray, and $10 off Studio JRU’s Everyday Faith Cross and SDG Grace Hanging Tiles. In addition, the entire By Grace Alone jewelry set is on sale for just $39.99. And last but not least, if you spend $25 or more, you can receive FREE SHIPPING with the code SHIPDEALS.

Sale Prices:

I don’t have a place in my house for those hanging tiles, much as I love them. But that tray will go anywhere! (the dining room table, the coffee table, a guest room – assuming it had not been displaced by a nursery three years ago and never returned to its former glory…). Seriously, trays are so handy and this one has a message that is undeniably true and beautiful: wonderful grace ~ simple joy ~ unending hope ~ authentic peace ~ unfathomable love.

I love that!
