Tell Them :: A Hallmark Giveaway

Remember when I wrote about the [many] things I wish someone would tell me? Well, it turns out that the folks at Hallmark liked it. And they’re giving away a pack of five Hallmark greeting cards to one of my readers so you, too, can tell the special people in their lives what they need to hear.

Is there someone in your life you need to tell something? Is there someone you care about who needs to be told something? I bet there is. I know there is in my life.

  • I want to tell my husband just how much I appreciate him . . . and how cute he is, too.
  • I want to tell my brother that I love him.
  • I want to tell Smitty that I will be thrilled if she gets a new job, but I’ll feel a little empty if she moves away.
  • I want to tell my friend Kevin that he deserves better and that he will find the right job.
  • I want to tell my pastor’s wife how thankful I am she believes in me and asked me to lead a small group.

Okay, that was kind of hard. So now it’s your turn!

For a chance to win a pack of greeting cards from Hallmark, share in the comments what you need or want to tell someone.

This giveaway will be closed at midnight on Friday, March 9. The winner will be chosen with And the Winner Is.., and announced next week.

SALE & GIVEAWAY :: What’s in the Bible DVDs

Annalyn has become obsessed with puppets. It started with a puppet show we saw on vacation. Then it really flared up when I brought home a What’s in the Bible DVD. And to top it all off, we saw the Muppet movie after Thanksgiving. (It was SO good!)

My girl LOVES puppets. Sock puppets. Finger puppets. TV puppets. In-real-life puppets. She loves them all! But what she asks to watch or listen to Every. Single. Day. is What’s in the Bible?

What’s in the Bible is made by the same guy who created Veggie Tales, and it features a crew of goofy puppets who explain the ins and outs of books of the Bible. So far, we’ve learned about Genesis and [not a book but obviously important] Christmas. I don’t know if it’s how the puppets present the information, the catchy songs or some other puppet magic, but Annalyn has learned a ton from the videos (and I’ve learned a lot of catchy songs that just won’t get out of my head!).

Tonight, I read her a holiday book that mentioned Hanukkah and she interrupted to say, “Hey! We know what that is! It’s in my puppet movie! Hanukkah is a really, really old holiday! The temple was cleaned for eight days!”

Huh. I guarantee I couldn’t have explained that to her without consulting Wikipedia. I didn’t even really have a response to that. Except to thank God (and my friend Amanda) for introducing us to What’s in the Bible!

I am not [just] telling you about this DVD series to sell you something. You can go directly to the What’s in the Bible website, Amazon or your local Christian bookstore to buy these videos to help teach your kiddos about the Bible (and get strangely catchy songs stuck in your head for days). Each DVD costs between $13 and $15.

But if you want six DVDs (volumes 1-5, plus “Why Do We Call it Christmas?”) for less than $50.00 (including shipping), here’s the place to go:

I’m giving away one set of these What’s in the Bible DVDs this week. To enter, simply tell me in the comments if you – or your kids – love puppets. Or the Bible. Or puppets who sing about the Bible.

This giveaway will be closed at midnight CST on Friday, December 16. This post will be linked to Works for Me Wednesday and Things I Love Thursday. Also, affiliate links were used in this post.

Giveaway (& Gift Idea) :: Gadanke Journals

list journal of thanksgiving gratitude

Do you like to write – but sometimes don’t know what to write about?
Do you find inspiration to write at odd times and resort to scribbling on receipts or napkins?
Do you wish you had a place to put all the stuff of life – the ticket stubs, postcards, etc.?
Do you wish you could just find an easier way to catalog your life than scrapbooking?

Then Gadanke journals might be for you. Katie creates fun, whimsical journals that come with plenty of prompts and embellishments to help you celebrate your story in whatever cute, clever or even crafty way you wish.

I love the prompts she gives in her journals, because while I love to write (and, let’s face it, write about myself), I don’t always think of different questions to ask or answer. Gadanke journals ask all sorts of questions – simple, complex, silly and deep – and then leave room for your answers and your life on the page. I love that!

Gadanke wants to help you document who you are and what you crave and believe. The handmade journaling products – from baby books and travel diaries to prayer journals and food journals – are filled with creative writing prompts and tidbits to make you think (and laugh!). They’re also eco-savvy, made with 100% recycled papers.

Mixed Paper, Writing Prompt Journal - Sherbet Orange

A handmade journaling shop is such an interesting business, and I was interested to hear from Katie me how she came up with the idea for Gadanke:

A couple of years ago, NPR’s StoryCorp was in town. It was also my grandma’s 90th birthday. The two of us decided to hop into the recording studio to capture some pieces of her story. I had all sorts of prompts to help her with her story telling. (I was always the listener, the one who asked question after question.) The only problem? My grandma couldn’t remember. Too much time had passed.

Later, my dad turned to me and said, “Katie, I need you to write down your story.” I knew he wished he had his mom’s stories. So I started writing. I started wondering about all of the other women who have stories deep inside of them, and I started thinking about how my tendency to just listen and ask could help put those stories onto paper. Gadanke was born with fabulous writing prompts and recycled papers. I feel so lucky to be living my dream!

This week, Katie is giving away a $25 gift certificate to the Gadanke shop to one Giving Up on Perfect reader. To enter, visit the shop and tell me (in a comment) which journal you’d love to have for celebrating your stories – or perhaps which journal you’d like to give to someone on your Christmas list. This giveaway will be closed on Friday, December 9.
