Fast Talk & Faith: A 22-Day Devotional Inspired by Gilmore Girls

It started with a conversation on Instagram, a friendly little debate over which of Rory’s boyfriends was the best. Or, if I’m using hindsight and my grown-up brain, which was the least bad. Despite knowing better I remain loyal to Team Jess. My friends disagreed. And somehow we ended up joking about deep thoughts and devotionals based on our favorite show.

I chuckled and went on my way but couldn’t shake the thought. Finally, when I couldn’t stop thinking about it, I quit resisting and thought, “Why not?”

And so this devotional was born. I tossed around lots of ways to structure the thing, from writing encouraging essays based on each character to deep diving into one particular relationship. But in the end it came down to the words. The words of our fast-talking friends in Stars Hollow, laid against the Word of God and the truth we find there.

Gilmore Girls might not be the first place you’d look for inspiration or encouragement in your faith, but I’ve found it there. And I can’t wait to share it with you.

Read on for details about the book – and some really fun launch day bonuses, too!

Fast Talk & Faith: A 22-Day Devotional Inspired by Gilmore Girls is now available for purchase at Amazon.

Gilmore Girls was known (and loved) for its fast-talking, pop culture-referencing, coffee-chugging characters, but it was also a show devoted to love of family and community. It turns out that these themes – as well as topics like forgiveness, kindness, and gratitude – partner well with lessons from the Bible. My hope is that Christians who loved this show will be encouraged and inspired to follow this “season” of daily devotions, reminiscing about their favorite Gilmore Girls scenes and perhaps seeing them from a whole new perspective.

We’re heading into the busiest time of the year. Don’t let that send you into a Gilmore-esque spiral! When life makes you say, “Oy with the poodles already!” grab your mug of coffee and settle in with Fast Talk & Faith for a conversation that will warm your heart and feed your soul.

Now…on to some fun stuff! First up? COFFEE IS ON ME THIS MORNING!

I’ve loaded up a Starbucks card, and it’s all yours for the sipping. Just have your friendly barista scan this image, then enjoy your coffee. After all, as Lorelai said, nothing says coffee like 6 a.m. in the morning! (Please order and enjoy your favorite drink or snack, but remember this is on the honor system. Leave some ‘bucks for the other Gilmore fans!)

Next up? Early bird gets the prize. Not a worm, because that’s gross. But the first 10 people to buy Fast Talk & Faith today will receive a lovely downloadable Gilmore Girls print from Genuine Design Co. Just forward me the receipt from your purchase, and I’ll send you the print!

Isn’t it cute?

Last up, every person who purchases the ebook on release day (that’s today! November 2!) will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize: a super fun Gilmore Girls mug and Lauren Graham’s new brand-new book, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything In Between). To be entered, forward me the receipt from your purchase. I’ll randomly select a winner and announce it later this week!

So that’s it! A devotional to get you through the next few weeks before Netflix releases the Gilmore Girls reboot. Free coffee. Prints for the early birds. And a fun drawing for everyone who buys the book today. So. Much. Fun!

I’ve been sitting here for longer than I’d like to admit, trying to come up with a clever way to wrap up this post. But as we know, when your heart’s involved, it all comes out in moron anyway. Also? I’m pretty sure all my good words went into the actual devotional. So, since it’s Wednesday, I’ll sum it up with this:

My new Gilmore Girls devotional is working for me!

I am mostly #TeamLogan, but I could be persuaded to the #TeamJess side … maybe! :) Looking forward to your devotional and November 25!!!!

Also, so sad that today is an at home day and Starbucks isn’t in the schedule ;) I’m guessing that card is already empty or will be by tomorrow morning!

    1. Mary @ Giving Up on Perfect November 7, 2016 at 3:03 pm

Since I’m assuming Rory won’t end up with any of her original boyfriends, I’d say #TeamJess and #TeamLogan fans can still be friends. ;)

Hi Pam, for now the book is only available as an ebook through Amazon. Hopefully someday it will be a paperback!

Mary, I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this devotional!!! Is there going to be a real book version? I would love to give each of my daughters a copy for Christmas! By the way, have you caught “Jess” in his new show – This is Us?

    1. Mary @ Giving Up on Perfect November 7, 2016 at 9:18 am

Hi Debra! For now the book is only available as an ebook through Amazon. You can gift them through Amazon (although I know that’s not as fun as wrapping a tangible book!). And yes, I’m really enjoying This Is Us!
