Today is my little brother’s 30th birthday. Just recently on Facebook, an old friend said one of the [random] things she remembers about me is spending the night at my house and listening to my brother spell “dinosaur.” Yes, I told her, we do love to spell in our family.
When my mom was pregnant with my brother, I was only three, so I shouldn’t remember much. I don’t actually remember him being born or anything else other than my parents informing me that I would have to share everything, including my toys and my grandparents, but not my teddy bear named Teddy.
Hmm. I’ve been laughing at my daughter for coming up with the lamest names for her dolls and stuffed animals (for example, her favorite stuffed cat was named . . . wait for it . . . Kitty). But it seems she comes by it honestly.
Anyway, it’s too late and I’m too tired to dig through my old photos for a good one of James and me. So I’m faced with the dreadful family photos from two years ago that – no exaggeration – should rightfully be posted on AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com – or this photo from our earliest days together.
I know, it’s horribly grainy and you can barely see that there’s a baby there at all. But you can definitely see my little bear sitting on my dad’s lap – well out of my new little brother’s reach. And, honestly, I’m just not up for sharing the awkwardness of the grown-up family photos yet.
So, long story short, happy birthday to my favorite little brother who is actually miles taller than me. I love you, and I know your thirties will be amazing.

Nope, didn’t tear up. Sorry. My thought was, nobody better do that to me. (I did think the Skype parts were sweet though:) That Jimmy Fallon video was highly entertaining though, thanks. :) I’m actually considering sending it to someone, lol.
To each her own, I guess. I would love it if someone did something like that for me!
Happy birthday to James! Spelling isn’t how I remember your family…I remember you both for your God-given talent! Both of you are accomplished musicians!
