Foods that come to mind that I seem to always have on hand are eggs, cheese, refried beans, and brown rice. And when my son complains that we don't have anything to eat, I start naming off a list of basics that we almost always have the ingredients for: grilled cheese sandwiches, egg burritos, macaroni and cheese, omelets, brown rice with vegetables... Of course these suggestions never satisfy his appetite.

I [almost] always have Dove dark chocolates on hand. Probably not the best idea, huh? ;) (oh, and no, I don't cook with them -- but I don't do that much real cooking, so I don't think that question really applies to me.;)
