I say be wise and discerning...pray. It's one thing for God to give you a burden and it is another to take one on. I believe God very much intends for us to be reasonable, and I don't believe faith contradicts reason...in the wise words of Martin Luther,

"If you have been given the responsibility for making something better, then do what you can and leave the rest up to God. But if you want to voluntarily take on more responsibility, trying to straighten out everything that's crooked, cure every evil, and throw the devil out of this world, then you'll only cause yourself a lot of pain and sorrow. It's like trying to stop a swift river. You can't control what people do in this world. Rather, the One who created all things is the One who controls them."

God won't give you anything you can't handle. Although sometimes we don't believe that when it's happening, it is so very true when you look back over instances in your life that you thought were unbearable. I know those times in my life have made me stronger.
My logical side says "it depends on the situation" My faith says "go for it"
