Say My Name, Say My Name…

And…you’re welcome for getting that song stuck in your head!

I need some help, please. As you have certainly noticed, I’m no longer going by Photoqueen on this here weblog. I’m plain ol’ Mary.

The decision came after much overthinking and overanalyzing, as I’m sure you’ll be surprised to hear. But after a while, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I wanted people to know my name!

Plus, after meeting several photographers at Blissdom, I realized that I am neither a photo nor a queen. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Oh wait – I mean that I’m not really a photographer. Maybe someday. But not so much today.

Anyway, so that’s me. Now I have to figure out what to do about my child. The baby formerly known as Photobaby.

I called her “The Kiddo” in my last post. What did you think about that? Did it feel right to you? Did it seem organic?

Just kidding. I don’t need to be organic.

I’ve seen that a lot of moms who blog (no, I will not cop to being a mommy blogger) have cute nicknames for their kids or call them just by initials. Others just use their kids’ real names.

What do you think? Any ideas? Whatcha got?

Well, the name on my blog is Pastor T (blog coming on that tomorrow), but I’m pretty sure most know I’m Toby. I’ve been reamed several times for using my kid’s names on my blog, but if someone wants to harass me or them that bad, not knowing their names isn’t gonna stop em.
Then again, maybe I am very naive. That’s what my Mom tells me anyway :-).
    Nice to meet ya Mary!

How about “Mary’s Baby”? As in, “And then, Mary’s Baby threw the spaghetti across the kitchen…”

Sometimes I use “the big one” and “the little one.” Anything besides real names gets kind of awkward…so, choose something fun. :)

  3. Holley says:

Hmm…what’s her favorite food? Maybe you could name her after that, like “Sweet Pea, Carrot, Hot Dog.” Okay, maybe not. But it might be kinda cute. (:
    Love your blog!

If I had it to do over, I would probably give my kids a blog nickname…but I never in this lifetime ever thought anyone other than my family would ever read my blog so I started out with their real names. It’s pretty much too late to change that now!

I personally hate initials…even for families where I know the kid’s names, I have a hard time keeping the initials straight and trying to figure out who the mom is talking about. :)

A lot of blogs come up with a theme and then give the entire family nicknames that go with the theme (ie. a candy or chocolate theme.) I would take some time to think it over and be creative. Have fun!

  5. Hip Mama says:

Well, I think I switch between the several names…real & not real…but all of our kids have nick names that we've given them at one time or another: "Crazy Little Guy…" "The Bean" etc…so what about a nick name that you call her? Kiddo is good too. :)

  6. chelleybutton says:

Well, I used her actual name in a comment somewhere, but that’s only because you started using your real name, so I thought it was strange to call her ‘Photobaby.’ (Sorry about that!) Looking forward to finding out what you choose! :)

I like the theme idea, Angie. I had thought about calling her a Chicken nugget because she loves eating them, and my husband thinks his nickname should be Mac (and of course I change that to Big Mac just to tease him). But then I found another blog that already did that. Back to the drawing board!

  8. BusyMommy says:

I just use my kids initials, but now I feel kinda bad because I used my youngest sons intial from a nickname he know longer uses. However I can’t change it because his real name starts with I, which would be worse. I should just give them nicknames, I guess. But PhotoBaby is very photogenic, so…

  9. HonorMommy says:

I think it depends on how much information you give about yourself and what you are comfortable with. For example, on my blog, I never say my husband’s or my name or our last name, (Although I’m sure it has been said in my comments at sometime…) but I use my kids’ real names. I also don’t say where we live other than AZ. I figure it is easier to find us than it would be to find the kids…

But my blog is mostly about my kids and my name to my kids is “mommy” (hence the post the other day!). It would just be too confusing for ME if I put other names on there.

Your blog is more “adult” focused than mine so it might be easier for you to give your daughter a nickname. Does that make any sense??? :-)

I’m all about calling her Baby Girl :-D–if you don’t want to use her real name that is.

first of all, looove the apples. secondly, I like initials! dorky nicknames I don’t like. (although Photobaby was cute).I kind of wish I’d gone with initials with my kids, but I totally jumped into blogging without even thinking about stuff like that, sooo…there ya go.

  11. BusyMommy says:

HonorMommy–I wish I knew where in AZ you were ’cause then our kids could hang out:D

  12. Brenda says:

This is an uncomfortable thing, isn’t it? When I first started my blog I went by B. Then later I thought that was ridiculous and I should just use my whole name. Then for a very long time I didn’t say my husband or son’s names. I’ve mentioned them a few times and for some reason it’s still uncomfortable. I like all the suggestions people are offering, and I think my favorite is what HonorMommy said… Baby Girl.

  13. ben and erin says:

well since mac and nugget are taken you could go with chicken tender and whopper! :-)

does she have any nicknames that you call her yet?

if you don’t want initials or a nickname how bout a middle name?

or you could do the apple theme.. she could be “apple of my eye” (although that’s a lot to type) and husband could be rotten apple…j/k! :-)

i’ve thought a lot about the name thing too. but then i was like, why does it matter. my last name is in my url! it does make me a little nervous though. too many weird people out there!

  14. HonorMommy says:

Hey Busy…I live about an hour SE of the airport…if you live anywhere around there, I’d love to do something with you and your kids–after you are off of bed rest of course! Then you can tell Stallion you met the REAL HonorMommy :-D.

  15. The Nester says:

Hi there! I followed you from Chatting at the Sky and I think you said you would be at she speaks! Maybe we can meet?

I’m all about giving my big fat opinion. The idea of Mary’s baby is cute but makes me think of Jesus. Kind of catchy though and I like the idea.

How about just making up a name. Like Maggie. Oh wait, do you have a boy? then Barthalomew or however you spell it. They can be a real name that you like but just not their real name {if that’s what you want}.

Chickadee from A Familiar Path does this with Clementine, Milo, Tess…. Darling names but fakes!

    Good luck

  16. Tam says:

    sometimes i call mine…

    brents kids
    spawns
    stinky
    my adorable children
    the offspring

but most often, i call them “kiddos”.

  17. melilotnfosco says:

  18. chelleybutton says:

  19. melilotnfosco says:
