Today, I’m thankful for low gas prices. For as long as it lasts, for whatever reason, I appreciate paying a reasonable amount to fill up my car.
When prices first started falling and everyone got so excited, just to see gas costing less than $4 a gallon, I was reluctant to share their joy. I thought that being happy with so little was giving in to The Man. (Whoever The Gas Man is…after this political season, I’m really not even sure about that anymore.) So I said that I wouldn’t get excited about gas prices until it was $2 a gallon, just like it should be.
Cynical? Maybe. I like to call it realistic. (Not as cynical as whoever made this sign that we saw in Nashville!)
But here we are in November. And gas costs less than $2 a gallon in my neck of the woods. Despite my cynicism. Despite our overconsumption. Despite this crazy economic and political climate.
So, I’m excited. I have been since I saw gas hit $2.30 and keep falling. Every time I pass a gas station, as a matter of fact, I thank God. I know it may not last. As a matter of fact, I suspect prices will shoot up again after the election. But for now, for as long as it lasts, I’m thankful for low gas prices.
What are you thankful for today?

Very true! Thanks for the reminder to thank God for it! :) (Ours are about the same as yours now too — maybe a tiny bit less, but as melilot pointed out, that’s probably due to the subsidies on ethanol here;)
I took that picture a couple days ago – it’s actually $1.89/gallon this morning!!!
Oh my goodness! $1.89!! I saw $2.34 this morning and wondered if we’d get under $2. Hooray!
Yes, lower gas prices will go on the thankful list. And today I’m thankful for sunshine.
I also was reluctant to share people’s joy when gas went just under $4 a gallon. I felt everyone was being brainwashed! Yesterday, I paid $2.77 a gallon here in San Diego. I’m sure there are cheaper places if you hunt for them. But wow, $1.95…. life is good in Missouri. :)
I’m also thankful for the sunshine today, Amy! :) And I’m thankful the election is tomorrow and the campaigning, etc. will soon be over. :)
Well, girls, I was not thankful for the sunshine earlier when I couldn’t find my sunglasses. But now that I have some perspective (i.e., I found my shades), I appreciate it a lot more! ;)
mine is under $2, I’m just glad to pay more like $30 to fill up my tank. At it’s highest I think I paid $75 to fill up my tank…crazy! Yes! Thank you God for the low Gas prices!
Be thankful, ours is still about $3.00 a gallon, which we are still really thankful for:)
gas prices around here went up today, and i was quick to complain. but then i remembered that $2.19 is still considerably cheaper than $4, so i, too, am thankful :)
my tank wasn’t empty, it was about 1/4 full, but it was really exciting to pay $16.32 today!
Baah!
Ours is still high, although this week it finally feel below $1 (per liter.)
kimmie – come down here and buy your gas in mpls! :D
:) Yeah, that would be economical!
we hit $1.99 today!!!!!!!!
first time since january 2007 we’ve been under $2
