Okay, fine, so you guys don’t want to talk about Barack Obama. But surely you’ve got an opinion on McCain’s announcement of his vice presidential running mate. A woman!
Wow. It’s all I can say.
On one hand, I’m concerned to read that she has 5-month-old baby. I don’t know about other moms out there, but this mom could not take on a responsibility like this.
Then again, she’s already serving as governor for her state, so she’s clearly able to mother and politic. And according to the article I linked above, she has a high approval rating in her state.
Why did McCain make this choice? Was it a good one? Does it change how you view the election? What do you all think about this? (Is anyone out there?)

Haha… I hadn’t even heard that yet, so I’ll have to get back to you. It is surprising though, especially the 5-month-old baby part!
oh, i just commented this on your obama post. :) this will be an interesting election.
a woman ran for vice-president in 1984
that aside, in all honesty, it really doesn’t change how i’ll vote at all. i don’t care if a person is male or female, white, black, or purple, as long as they’re qualified for the job.
i don’t know much of anything about pallin, so i can’t tell you what i think of her.
Don’t worry, hobsis, I’m not advocating anyone vote according to gender or race. But no matter what I think, I bet this does change things for a lot of people.
The fact that she’s a female doesn’t make a difference to me–no one would say anything about a man who had a 5 month old baby, but I’ve heard MANY people commenting on it…but I’m like you, I figure she’s already a governor so she’s obviously got ways to deal with it. Besides…as a mother of 5, she’s had plenty of experience and probably has her routine down pat!
But as a VP pick, she’s fierce. I didn’t know anything about her before yesterday, but I researched her when I heard about his pick and she is amazing. I’m really excited!
I think I would have a problem if he or she was actually purple… :) There’s that whole health issue then.
Actually, the whole parent thing does bother me. It’s bothered me with Obama and now it bothers me with her. You only have so much time when your kids are little and they actually want you around all the time. I know people have to work and should work doing the things they love to do if at all possible, but to choose to do a job that so decidedly takes you away from your kids and any kind of community life seems odd to me. Not necessarily wrong- I don’t know them or their situations, but it leaves me scratching my head.
oh- and she’s not the first woman VP pick. The first one lost, so I’m thinking the news media is making much more of it than people will. (but that’s their job right? :) )
my only comment regarding palin’s daughter (which is a family situation, and nobody else’s business) is that i really hope both palin and her daughter understood – before she agreed to the vp campaign – what the media would do when they found out, and that her daughter was ok with it.
:)
Given recent events, I just want to point out that I wrote my comment before the story about her daughter broke!
Are there seriously schools in the states that teach abstinance only? What’s the point of sex ed. then?
