Teacher (What teacher’s pet doesn’t want to be a teacher? Of course, I’m still a bit jealous of those summers off!)
-
Lawyer (I have to admit, this one still comes and goes occasionally.)
-
Cartoon artist (I went through this phase in middle school. I thought I was the next big cartoonist. It may have had something to do with the TV show, “Caroline in the City.”)
-
Animal rights activist (My seventh grade civics teacher showed us a video about cock fighting. I was appalled and briefly determined to do something about it.)
-
Novelist
-
Journalist (I went to college with this idea. I was very close to going to a large university specifically for this major, but ended up going to a smaller school. Good thing, since I changed my major after first semester when I learned that being a reporter isn’t exactly like being Brenda Starr or Lois Lane!)
-
Rock star (Right, like you don’t have this dream!)
-
Music teacher
-
Photographer
-
Psychologist (This was my next bright idea in college – spent a couple semesters thinking I would be a counselor. Not a bad idea, but it wasn’t the right one, either.)
-
Small business owner/entrepreneur
-
Event planner (This is where my career began. It was a good place, but not the ultimate place for me.)
-
Fundraiser
-
College professor (Turns out it only took two hostile golfers in my Speech 101 class to change my mind about changing young lives this way.)
-
PR specialist (Okay, so nobody really dreams of being a “specialist,” but it’s my title for now.)
-
Book editor
-
Book publicist
-
Party planner, photographer and scrapbooker (surely there’s a market for this?!)
-
Writer (Some days, I really think I have a book in me. What kind of book, you ask? I don’t know yet…but I’ll let you know when I do!)
I’ve thought for more than a year (way more than that if you go back to when I originally thought of it in college) that I should be a Christian book editor. It’s possible that this is “it,” what I’ve been looking for. What I’m made to do. For the record, I don’t know how to get into this career, since I’m fairly entrenched in another career path. But I do know that if this is God’s plan for me, we’ll figure it out somehow!
What kind of job dreams do YOU have? What will YOU be when you grow up?

Great to see a new blog! :-D
I have my dream “job”…I want to be a full-time “Mommy”…that is the ONLY job I can think of the encompasses every job you have listed PLUS a billion other little jobs (well, except maybe college professor…). Best job in the world! :-D
professional ice cream tester :D
also, an artist, children’s book illustrator, designer of some sort, anything having to do with writing/reading/editing, model, decorator, politician, something to do with harry potter (but not sure what — maybe someone who works for mugglenet, or an extra in the movies:), race car driver, professional shopper, ESL teacher… that’s all I can think of right now, but I’m sure there are more that I’m not thinking of… :)
Race car driver – that’s interesting! :)
My friend from grad school emailed me (she didn’t have a google login but wanted to comment) and said, “Really? It was JUST the two golfers that made you give up teaching?” And she also pointed out that I got one great friend out of that ordeal – and she’s right. :)
oh, i forgot dancer — and are you surprised about the race car driver? ;)
i love being a mom (even though i complain at times).
but if i were to choose something else, i’d pick librarian
or truck driver
or writer
or work at meg ryan’s bookstore in “you’ve got mail”
or work for historical sites planning children’s programs/tours
oh I have no idea!
I always wanted to be a teacher until my health gave out and now that one is a definite no-go since I’ve seen what crazy lives my teacher friends have. I’ve thought about being a TA but since having kids, I’m not sure I could deal with kids all day and then come home to more kids- I need some sanity in my day! So maybe a librarian/teacher librarian. Maybe a care home recreation person (another great love of mine, but again, the sanity issue.) Maybe a secretary somewhere where I could just enjoy people and make a difference in co-workers lives. I don’t know. I’m home for now until the kids go to school and I get healthy and that keeps me more than busy enough :)
ooh- or maybe a dietitian, since now I know more about certain fats and such than the one that works at the hospital :)
you’d so be my dietitian, kimberly, if you put me on your “chocolate diet” ;)
hm…let’s see…
language conservationist (still don’t know what that would entail), writer, tolkien expert, actress, broadway star, proofreader/editor, librarian, ice cream taste-tester, mattress tester, gambler, travel agent, tour guide, old person companion, ice skater, trapeze artist (if i weren’t scared of heights), or pam beesley
a gambler, mel? i had no idea! i’m also surprised about the trapeze artist, but it does sound fun — but i thought race car driver would be one of yours too?? and i didn’t know pam beesley was an occupation :P
oh, & once you told me you wanted to be the person on jeopardy who asks questions on video (i forget what their “title” is) — but i guess that kinda goes with tour guide or travel agent, maybe… you should ask questions for a tolkien category ;)
race car driver would be fun, i just hadn’t thought of it for a career
oh, but i do need to add: philologist, ice cream truck driver, seat-filler at the academy awards, life coach…
what’s a philologist again?
seat-filler at the academy awards would be a good job :)
basically like a linguist, but with more emphasis on the origin of words (which fascinates me).
and i have to add: organist for the minnesota twins
i like posts that go on forever :)
…but i also like updates… (photo?;)
I know…I’ll update soon…didn’t I say that a while ago?
